How come we trend together to tame the tyrants that use us against each other? It’s no doubt that youths are the most populated in our communities and they are the most active citizens of any nation. Yet, it’s amazingly sad to know that youth togetherness is mostly motivated by individual goals rather than collective gains. Everyone is in it for self-gratification most of the time. The “I” syndrome is an appalling pandemic. We come together most of the time to outshine rather than shine together. Until youth cohabitation is on solid ground with the right vision, it will remain a kingdom of animal survival.
The philosophy or practice of favouring collective cohesion over individual goals is known as collectivism. Individualism, on the other hand, is a value or political viewpoint that emphasizes personal individuality and freedom. The youth coalition can’t checkmate the deficiency and excess in leadership if collectivism is not allowed to take proper charge of the compass that leads to achieving the vision. If youth must lead, then they must be ready to ensure that a structured and sustainable coalition is created without the intent of dominating each other or allowing themselves to be used by anyone.
Because “coalition” also means “working together,” we must ensure that everyone achieves more when they work together. Everyone must talk, walk, and work together till victory is attained. Every youth in a coalition must appreciate each other’s strengths and complement one another’s weaknesses to fight the threats together and so as to enjoy the opportunities that victory brings collectively.
Youth must band together on issues that are important to them. We mustn’t major in minors and minor in majors. Every opportunity to come together should be for productivity, not for popularity’s sake. Youth must be aware that if they truly want a future for themselves, their children, and the unborn, they must be ready to take charge productively, progressively, and protectively. As it has been said, we are all powerful beyond measure. Together we stand, divided we fall. Let’s come together with a collective mindset with our individually God-given skills, talents, and gifts.
