A flashback to the past when religious practices were more sincere and the fear of the Almighty deepened in people who practised the religion is important to be remembered. Back then, religious centres were everything. The faithful of each religion were great worshipers, with the belief of a divine reward for their actions, good or bad. People believed in the reward system, and the religious leader was less manipulative compared to recent days. It was easy to differentiate between a bad and a good religious leader. In those days, followers were obedient, diligent, and resilient. The worship centres then were homes of solace for all.
A glance at today’s religious activities reveals almost the opposite of all that was mentioned in the previous paragraph. In this era of the vast knowledge of everything, it is amazing to know how ignoramus people are. They are too lazy to explore their faith through learning and research. The struggle for the faithful practice of cultural religion is more intense nowadays than in previous years. Individuals’ religious culture teaching and practice have either been blackmailed, abandoned, avoided, trashed, or transformed to suit individuals more than the basic principles.
Exploring the two major religions, notably Christianity and Islam, among others, it will be observed that there has been a huge difference in how religious teaching is now and in the last five decades. Religious culture has suffered a lot of pressure from cultural religion. Most religious leaders have combined religious and cultural practices. This act has left the majority of their followers perplexed, and some have even abandoned their religious affiliation.
In this way, cultural religion is when cultural practices are imported into religious principles as palliatives, while religious culture is the establishment of religious practices in their ideal state. To make the faithful’s struggle easier, let us distinguish between cultural religion and religious practices.
