The Rivers Assembly has been set on fire over the threat to impeach Governor Fubara.

 

The Rivers State House of Assembly’s sacred chambers have been set on fire by alleged political thugs in the state.

On Monday, the House moved to begin the impeachment process against the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, and the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

The arsonists struck at 9:45 p.m., causing an uncomfortable stillness surrounding the assembly complex, which also houses the State Police Command.

According to a source, the legislature has finished preparations to impeach the couple on Monday when it reconvenes following certain hidden difficulties.

Following the development, some youngsters were said to have entered and set fire to the assembly facility.

A senior police official in the state who did not want to be identified verified the situation, adding that it took the combined efforts of police and the state Fire Service to extinguish the fire.

“Yes, the Rivers State House of Assembly main chamber was attacked and set on fire,” the insider said. Police officers and the fire department assisted in putting out the fire.”

However, as of press time, security forces had taken over the assembly complex’s premises.

Over 17 security trucks and four armed officials Carriers, APC, have been stationed at the site, along with over 50 Federal Security officials.

The Rivers Government House Camp Commander is also said to have been fired.
