The Origination of the Football Game cum its rich benefits.
The origin of football can be traced to various ancient civilizations. One of the earliest known examples of where football originated from is the ancient Chinese game called “cuju”. It was played during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE).
But modern-day football began to take a turn in England during the 19th century when various rules became applicable and formalized. The Football Association (FA) was formed in 1863 and standardized rules were coined and established for the game. One of the strong rules includes the prohibition of holding the ball with the hands during play time except by the goalkeeper. This notably led to rugby football and association football (soccer) separation in the mid-19th century where rugby allow other players apart from the goalkeeper to use their hands with the ball during play time. This led to the development of two different sports we know as rugby and soccer.
The responsibility of the football game spreading across the globe was facilitated by British colonialism and international trade, which leads to the formation of a lot of national football associations and leagues like the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Confederation of African Football (CAF), Union of Europe Football Associations (UEFA), Nigeria Football Federation, Nigeria Professional Football League, Premier League, Spanish La Liga and a host of others. Football’s popularity began to spread beyond Europe to other continents through colonial influence, trade, and as countries interact.
The very first international football game took place between England and Scotland in the year 1872 and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in 1904 as the global governing body for football. As time evolves, so does the game of football along with more rules and innovations like the introduction of goal nets and yellow and red cards were implemented for defaulters. Some other innovations thanks to technology include the introduction of goal-line technology, video assistant referees (VAR), and advancements in sports equipment and stadium facilities.
Football naturally is competitive, fascinating and entertaining and has since grown rapidly because of these. Football is one of the games that is simple, easily accessible and because of its collaborative nature has the ability, power and positive force to bring people to work together to achieve a common goal regardless of diversity. Football transcends language and cultural barriers. A bunch of strangers could meet and immediately bond over a 90 minutes game, and converse like they have been in each other’s lives for years.
If you are a shy and socially-awkward individual like myself looking to rid of your shell and bond with some great people, the game of football – I Strongly Recommend!
