The Ondo executive committee is divided on Akeredolu’s vote of confidence.
By; Mary Owolabi
A vote of confidence in Governor Rotimi Akeredolu caused conflict amongst members of the Ondo State Executive Council on Wednesday.
Several council members commended Akeredolu for being a courageous principal and a mentor, but two commissioners contended that the executive did not make the decision.
The Commissioners and other state executive council members complimented the governor in a statement for the remarkable achievements accomplished while he was in charge.
“As members of the State Executive Council, we have absorbed the principles of good governance, integrity, and commitment from the best- Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.”
“The courage and exemplary leadership consistently displayed by Mr. Governor continues to motivate and inspire us to fulfill our duties.” Without a doubt, Mr. Governor is a godsend to the people of Ondo State. “Governor Akeredolu is not only a worthy leader, but also a national asset who is zealously committed to the welfare of the country.” His leadership has been gratifying and inspirational. This courageous leadership, which leads the people of Florida to prosperity and progress, is what sets it apart as patriotic.
We are proud to be Mr. Governor’s foot soldiers and we enjoy serving under him. His tenacity, insomnia, and dedication to safeguarding and assisting the state’s citizens despite several setbacks in the past are astounding.
“His leadership embodies compassion, vision, and commitment to development, progress, and peace.”
“Therefore, we all express our steadfast belief in Mr. Governor and our support for his capable leadership.
“We remain unwavering in our support for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, as a single front, and resolve to continue working together for the progress and prosperity of the state,” they stated.
Obe and Sowore are not at the executive meeting.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources and his counterpart in Commerce and Industry, Messrs. Razaq Obe and Allen Sowore, disregarded Akeredolu’s vote of confidence and claimed not to have been informed of the decision.
Obe responded by saying: “I’m in Lagos as I speak to you, I left Akure on Wednesday to attend a conference and I communicated that to the Chief of Staff before I left.” I asked if someone could share a copy of the paper they called a vote of confidence with me so that I could see it before I signed. Later, they asked for my signature to be added to it. I did not send the signature since I did not know about it. There is no executive meeting.
Mr. Sowore said, “The point is that I’m not in the state, the vote passed by the members of the cabinet in the state, in a situation like this, does not count, because, in the first place, we are Mr. Governor’s appointees, we can’t even say we don’t have confidence in him.” Anyone who does not trust the governor needs to resign. I think it is absurd to pass a vote of confidence. The governor cannot be excluded from the cabinet by us.”
