The Federal Government bans out food importation, claiming that Nigeria is self-sufficient.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the country has the potential to become self-sufficient in food production and even export surplus food to other countries. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

He stated that the government has decided that there is no need for the country to import food items from other countries. The governors have also agreed to collaborate with the government in investing more in the agricultural sector to ensure that more food is made available to Nigerians.

President Tinubu held a meeting with state governors on Thursday to discuss the current challenges in the country. The government has invested in both crop production and livestock development to ensure food availability.

However, since President Tinubu announced the removal of subsidies, the economy has been on a downward trend, leading to a rise in the cost of living and increased criminal activities. Women and youth have taken to the streets to protest, and there’s heightened tension in the country. President Tinubu has directed his economic team to find solutions to ease the situation.

Additionally, a Special Presidential Committee on Emergency has been approved to provide about 102,000 metric tonnes of assorted food items, including rice, maize, and millet. The meeting was held to propose solutions to mitigate the rising cost of food items, insecurity, and other economic issues.
