Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley with a groin injury as the Reds look for a first domestic cup in a decade.

Diogo Jota is also a doubt with ankle ligament damage.

Left-back Ben Chilwell is Chelsea’s only confirmed injury absentee.

Full-back Reece James has been out for the European champions since December with a hamstring injury, but manager Thomas Tuchel is not ruling out a comeback.

“He looked brilliant in the last two training sessions,” Tuchel said. “Let’s see if I’m crazy enough to put him on the pitch or if I’m rational enough to take it to step by step.”

Jurgen Klopp stated last month that Caoimhin Kelleher, the Reds’ usual cup goalkeeper, will start in place of Alisson, but Tuchel is uncertain about whether to use Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy.

Tuchel or Klopp will make history by becoming the first German manager to win the competition.

Since their last League Cup victories, both teams have won the Champions League (2012 for Liverpool and 2015 for Chelsea).

They previously met in the League Cup final in 2005, with Chelsea winning 3-2 in extra time.

Manchester City had won the last four EFL Cups, but they were knocked out in the fourth round by West Ham.

The claims that despite being kept out of the lineup for the Champions League win against Lille due to his poor form, striker Romelu Lukaku, their record signing, has trained well.

“He’s been good, like everyone else,” the Blues’ manager added. “He’s a significant player.” From the beginning, he played a lot of games for us.

“With Jorginho, one of our leaders, we may be in the same predicament.” He hasn’t played as much as he has in the past few weeks because we believe he is fatigued.

“Romelu is getting a lot of attention, but Jorginho is in a similar scenario.”

“Look at the finest clubs in the world,” Pep Lijnders, Liverpool’s assistant manager, stated. This ‘one’ is something they all have in common.

On Sunday, we’re going all out for this game.

“We will see, hear, and feel the supporters.” It’s a huge contest.

“When we first began working on this initiative, we concluded that the best approach to succeed in English football is to concentrate solely on the upcoming game.” Our group instilled in us the belief that the following game would be the final. As a result, nothing changes.”
