Manchester United’s opening Champions League group game against Paris Saint-Germain is set to go ahead on Tuesday despite a strict curfew in the French capital.

French President, Emmanuel Macron named Paris among nine cities where people must stay indoors between 9pm and 6am for four weeks from Saturday as he declared a state of emergency in an attempt to contain the Covid-19 virus.

However, United’s clash with PSG can still go ahead behind closed doors at Parc des Princes because no supporters will be at the game.

It will be a far cry from United’s last visit to Paris in March 2019 when 47,441 fans saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go through on away goals in the most dramatic of circumstances when Marcus Rashford converted an injury-time penalty.

The curfew will also be in place in Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Saint-Etienne, Rouen, Toulouse, Grenoble and Montpellier.

People will be able to make essential trips but will need a valid reason to leave their homes during the nine-hour lockdown.
