President Muhammadu Buhari has on Friday directed his Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to ensure that all Ministers and agency heads include young people with the necessary skills and experience on all Federal Government Boards and Committees.

Buhari made the remarks while hosting members of the APC National Youth Lobby Group at the Presidential Villa’s Council Chambers in Abuja.

Incorporating young people into governance, he claims, will foster learning and mentoring in government and politics.

President Buhari has requested the SGF to produce a report next month on the inclusion of young people on unconstituted boards and committees.

Prof Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff, and the SGF were also asked to hold monthly meetings with the APC Youth Lobby group for improved synergy and cross-pollination of ideas and possibilities.

President Muhammadu Buhari urged both senior government officials to look into forming a committee of young people to oversee and evaluate existing Federal Government projects around the country.

He claimed that the committee would provide comments that would allow his government to keep people in positions of public trust and those who have been granted responsibilities accountable.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, President Buhari praised the concept of forming a Presidential Committee on Youth in consultation with youth leaders, and asked the SGF and Chief of Staff to work out the mechanisms for its implementation.

Expressing support for the establishment of the Progressive Institute for the party, the President said: ”The party must have an Institute where its ethos, character and mantra are inculcated in our members. I will rely on you to share the concept note for further action.”

While endorsing the 2021 APC Youth Conference Report, he promised the Group that the report’s proposals that fall within his remit would be given careful consideration.
