President Muhammadu Buhari has canceled a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) that was set to take place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Although the agenda of the failed meeting was unknown as of Tuesday evening, it was thought to be related to the ruling All Progressives Congress’s upcoming National Convention (APC).
It was gathered that the meeting was anticipated to examine, among other things, the convention’s modalities, particularly the formation of sub-committees to ensure the exercise’s success.
The majority of APC governors were claimed to have arrived in Abuja on Monday for the Tuesday meeting before learning of the cancellation from the Progressive Governors Forum, the party’s umbrella body.
Governors, who had arrived at the Presidential Villa for the meeting, which was not listed as part of the President’s itinerary for the day, include the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Kayode Fayemi; Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum Simon Lalong (Plateau); Ben Ayade (Cross River); and Mallam Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna).
Governors Udodinma and Bello also expressed an interest in attending the conference.
The President was said to have changed his mind about the meeting because his flight to Belgium was approaching.
It was not possible to ascertain whether the meeting had been rescheduled.
