Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has cautioned Real Madrid they will face a distinct side to the one that was thrashed in El-Clasico earlier this season when they meet in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final on Wednesday evening.

The Barça defender stated that his team had a score to settle after losing to their opponents at home earlier in the season.

“They got all three points unfairly,” Pique told Movistar.

“I recall an action by [Sergino] Dest in which they advanced the first time they did so. We were more impacted, but things have altered since then.”

Xavi Hernandez has steadied the ship after Ronald Koeman was ousted five days after the 2-1 setback at the Camp Nou in October, and the 34-year-old defender indicated that he is looking forward to the match.

“It’s a title, and as we’ve demonstrated in the past, we’ll all fight for it equally,” Pique added.

“We are extremely motivated to win the trophy. It’s El Clasico’s semi-final, and it’ll be a tough match.

“But we believe we’ve arrived at the right time. We’re getting better. I believe we will be able to perform well, qualify, and advance to the final.”

Pique also stated that he is fully aware of the task that Real Madrid would present to his team.

“[Real Madrid] have kept the foundation that has brought them so much success in the past,” Pique stated.

“The midfield, with Casemiro, [Toni] Kroos, and [Luka] Modric, knew each other quite well, and their performances over the years have been outstanding.”

In terms of goals and play, [Karim] Benzema and Vinicius [Junior] are at the top of their game.

“Behind them is a side that defends effectively, is comfortable without the ball, and they rely on Vinicius’ transitions or the midfielders coming together to pass the ball to Benzema… For years, the same foundation has been used. We’re familiar with them; they’re accomplished, but I feel we can harm them.”
