Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has revealed Ryan Giggs is the best player he has played with in his career, snubbing both teammates Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The ex-Red Devils left-back, 40, made a total of 273 appearances during his time at Old Trafford, and got his hands on various honours, which included five Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.
Speaking to news outlet 433, the Frenchman surprised fans by claiming his best player to be former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs.
‘People always ask me the best player you played with after you signed for United [Manchester United], and they expect me to say Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘I always say Ryan Giggs, because sometimes he will pass the ball where nobody would see it, and his legacy’, he said.
‘I remember with Giggsy, even if you were losing a game in training he would be going mad. Sometimes even the training was more important than the actual game.’
Evra believes the former Manchester United star helped him to develop his game and provided him with the necessary critiques to help him strive to be one of the best left-backs in the modern game.
‘I learned a lot with this guy, and we played on the left side together, and argued a lot on the pitch, because I loved to do those really bad throw-ins where the ball bounces in front of you, so you know you have to react.
‘He [Ryan Giggs] had great technique, so he was like, Patrice play it into my feet!
‘I was like a player like you, you should deal with it! And after the game we were just like sorry bro… that game was intense.’
In Giggs’ recent book published in 2011, the Welshman highlighted Evra as being an influential player during his time at Old Trafford.
‘In his book he said he managed to play longer in his career because of Patrice Evra, so it was a massive compliment.
‘He taught me how to cross between the defenders legs, because when you cross, the defender will always open his legs. And I just respected him as a man, his determination, and his hunger for winning trophies’, he added.
