It was learnt on Thursday that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) would kick off migrant e-registration exercise in all its designated commands from July 1, 2020.
This was as result of due gradual ease of the COVID -19 lockdown across the country by the Federal Government.
The Comptroller -General of the Service, Muhammad Babandede has however instructed officials of the designated commands to strictly adhere to the COVID – 19 guidelines stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC).
Since the inception of the exercise , over 30, 000 migrants have so far registered with the NIS.
The Immigration spokesman, Mr Sunday James, said the commands must ensure clealiness of the registration centres before granting access to migrant, as well as checking the migrants’ temperature, adding that they should also provide sanitisers and soaps for washing hands.
He stated that migrants were expected follow stipulated guidelines by wearing face masks and observing physical distancing.
He declared ,“The Comptroller- General of Nigeria Immigration Service expects maximum compliance from both the operatives at the frontline and the migrants as a safety and precautionary measure to curb the spread of the COVID -19 and safeguard lives.”
