The Lagos state government has obligated every citizen to make use of masks in public as an essential measure to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state.
Lagos, with a population of over 20 million people has been the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic since its breakout in Nigeria , recording 689 infection cases and 19 fatalities out of Nigeria’s total cases of about 1,182 and 35 fatalities.
The state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this measure to hinder the continuous spread of the COVID-19 as community transmission phase is on the increase, hence the need to be more cautious. He further stated that defaulters are liable to sanctions and penalties .
He added that, in a bid to effectively enforce the measure, mass production of face masks for citizens’ usage has commenced , highlighting business opportunities for both small and large scale businesses besides contributing to the COVID-19 ,can also make profits.
However, the state is still on Lockdown expected to elapse on Monday, following President Buhari’s directives , since late March.
