The capital of Kwara State, Ilorin, is experiencing yet another round of fuel shortages, with lengthy lines once again forming at few fuel stations that have the product.
Remember that the last fuel shortage in Ilorin happened after the Petrol Tanker Drivers Union of Oke-Ogun, Saki, in Oyo State experienced a leadership crisis, which disrupted the fuel supply to Kwara State.
On Wednesday, attempts to get in touch with Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) representatives in Ilorin were unsuccessful.
Currently, the product is offered for sale at some filling stations run by independent marketers for N220, N230, N250, or N280 per litre.
The major marketers, however, have continued to sell the product at the official pump price of N190 or N195 per litre despite the lack of a consistent supply.
Black product marketers have taken advantage of the shortage to resume their regular operations.
In order to advertise the availability of the product by hawkers, though at a high price, gallons are displayed along the road from the Maraba axis to the Zango-Kulende area of the Ilorin metropolis.
The price of a four-litre gallon of gasoline ranges between N1,600 and N1,800, or N400 per litre.
According to a dealer at one of the TotalEnergies filling stations in Ilorin who spoke openly with our correspondent, the shortage was brought on by a lack of supply from the Lagos depot.
There will always be a shortage of the product because we don’t refine our crude oil in the country, Tajudeen Balogun of Ara-Oje filling station, Abdulazeez Attah Road, Ilorin, stated in response.
Nigeria will continue to experience a persistent fuel crisis, according to him, unless we clean up our act and take appropriate action.
