Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has passed away at the age of 67.

Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was re-elected in October 2020 and sworn in for a second term in February 2021.

During his second term, Governor Akeredolu encountered some challenges when he had to take medical leave overseas in June. He stayed abroad for several months and returned to Nigeria in September, settling in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. However, on December 13th, he took another medical leave and handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who took on the governor’s responsibilities.

Betty, the wife of Akeredolu, has announced the suspension of activities that were planned for her 70th birthday on July 9. This decision comes after several concerns were raised about the proposed fanfare, especially considering her husband’s ill health.

Betty has stated that all activities have been suspended until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances that are beyond her control.
