Femi Falana,  a human rights lawyer has accused the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, of influencing the Federal High Court into giving contradictory judgements on section 84(12) of the new Electoral Act 2022 on Sunday.

Mr Falana claimed Mr Malami pretended not to be aware of the restraining order issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja prohibiting him from tampering with the legal provision, but vowed to carry out the order issued by the court’s Umuahia division,  which ordered the clause to be removed from the law.
According to a statement, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria criticized Mr Malami for allegedly manipulating the court into issuing contradicting rulings, citing three divisions of the Federal High Court’s opinions on the subject.

Mr. Malami, he argued, cannot so pick and choose which commands to comply or defy.
