Egypt assistant boss Diaa al-Sayed wants their Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal to be played on Monday instead of Sunday so they can have an extra day of rest.

The Pharaohs beat hosts Cameroon on Thursday on penalties, their third knock-out game to go to extra-time.

Senegal defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 on Wednesday, winning all of their games in 90 minutes.

“I request that the CAF hold the final on Monday,” Al-Sayed stated.

“Senegal has one more day of recovery ahead of it.”

Because Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was thrown off during the game, Al-Sayed was speaking to the media.

The third-place play-off between Cameroon and Burkina Faso was originally scheduled for Sunday but has been rescheduled for Saturday.

“I’m hoping to play on Monday now that we’ve advanced to the third-place match,” Al-Sayed remarked.

Both semi-finals were played on the same day in 2019.

The rescheduling of the final would cause the players’ return to their clubs to be delayed.
