The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Osondu Victor Igwilo and three others in connection with a $100 million fraud.

Igwilo, the alleged leader of the criminal network “catchers,” has been on the FBI’s watch list for crimes ranging from wire fraud to money laundering to $100 million in aggravated identity theft.

At a studio in Lagos’ Sangotedo neighborhood, he was arrested alongside Okafor Nnamdi Chris, Nwodu Uchenna Emmanuel, and John Anazo Achukwu.

According to the FBI Wanted List, between 2014 and 2016, Igwilo and his accomplices impersonated and stole the identities of bank personnel and US government officials.

They were accused of promising bogus investment opportunities and bolstering the credibility of such investments by allegedly enlisting U.S. citizens to pose as bank officials during face-to-face meetings with the victims.

Igwilo was accused of perpetrating a $100 million fraud scheme involving numerous U.S. financial institutions at this time.
