Without a doubt, the Nigerian people and the African race are missing out on the true value of communal development through their beautiful cultural heritage, all in the name of civilization. We have lost almost completely the value of honour, respect, humour, togetherness, and collective growth and development in our societies.

A Brief Overview of Communal Values: A communal or cultural value system is held and applied by a community, organization, or culture. Some communal value systems are enshrined in awesome traditional legal codes or legislation. For example, females have more communal qualities, which express a concern for the wellbeing of others. Females were regarded for their affection, helpfulness, kindness, sympathy, interpersonal sensitivity, caring, and gentleness in social positions in the past.

Today, we have lost it all to individualism, cruelty, and immorality among both the female and male genders. Abuse of civilization leads to a series of shameless acts in our societies. People now prefer heinous acts to righteous values. wrongdoers are celebrated day in and day out, We have lost our beautiful cultures to civilised burdens. Wrongs are now rights, and rights are now wronged publicly without apologies. Communal values are dwindling every day without hope of revival. This is a common misunderstanding.

Religious leaders are now prosperity preachers, not moral motivators. Motivational speakers and life coaches are abused and misunderstood, while social activities have taken over in totality. We have lost it to meaningless music, entertainment, and unsustainable social life. We have abdicated our values in partnership in the establishment of industries, institutions, and indigenous innovation. We now have beer parlours, bars, clubs, hotels, and other distractive investments that are not sustainable for our kind of life and economy.

Our leadership is falling on its own without a solution. They have no empathy for the future of the younger generations and have sympathy for the lives of the less fortunate and non-privileged people. Our leaders are mostly myopic and clueless, yet we have allowed them because we couldn’t figure out what we wanted as a people. We lost the communal values that checked our ill actions and behaviour. We lost the value of decency to destruction, the value of honesty to horrible lies. The value of togetherness for tough mindsets and the value of supportiveness for solitude We have refused to take a reflective look at all our actions and inactions.

Since we have decided to sacrifice our communal values for the sake of civilised vanity, we may never grow out of a copycat lifestyle, we may never be able to create, but we will always be able to consume from the assumed civilised communities from abroad. If we refuse to retrace our steps to the values that made us original, we might never step free of the modern slavery we have delved into without track.

Until indiscipline, immorality, and insolence are collectively dealt with, we might never be able to sail out of the sinking ship on the ocean of civilization. We must be prepared to work collaboratively, consistently, and steadfastly to fix our mistakes, or else we might drown forever without any help in sight.
