Christian Eriksen has been named in Denmark’s squad for the first time since his cardiac arrest while playing at Euro 2020 last summer.

The 30-year-old midfielder was fitted with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) a type of pacemaker after his cardiac arrest against Finland.

After being released by Inter Milan, he joined Brentford in January.

On the 26th of March, Denmark will play a friendly in the Netherlands, followed by a home match against Serbia three days later.

Before the two games, Eriksen will train with the rest of his international team in Spain.

After being released by Inter Milan, he signed a six-month contract with Brentford and made his debut game for the Bees as a substitute in a loss to Newcastle United on February 26.

When the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder came on after 52 minutes, fans and players on both sides gave him a standing ovation.

After that, he said: “If you ignore the outcome, I’m a very happy man. Being back after going through what I’ve gone through is a beautiful feeling.”

Inter Milan and Eriksen agreed in December to terminate his contract because players with an ICD are unable to compete in Serie A. The Premier League, on the other hand, does not follow the same rules.

He trained at Odense Boldklub, the Danish team he represented as a teenager, after leaving the Serie A club before joining Brentford.

Eriksen played the entire game for Brentford in wins over Norwich City and Burnley after the game against Newcastle.

In the 2-0 win over the Clarets, he set up Ivan Toney for a goal and has been effective as the Bees have moved away from the relegation zone.

Denmark qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by winning their group with 27 points from ten games, four points ahead of Scotland, who finished second.
