Burnley’s English Premier League game against Leicester City on Saturday has been postponed due to Covid-19 cases and injuries in the Clarets’ squad.
This is the fourth Burnley match to be postponed due to Covid-19 this season, but it is the first time the Turf Moor team has made the request. Another match for the relegation-threatened Clarets, against Tottenham, was postponed at the last minute owing to heavy snow.
Burnley’s appeal was allowed by the Premier League Board since the club did not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper) due to COVID-19 cases and injuries, according to a league statement.
Burnley had three successive matches postponed last month, against Watford, Aston Villa, and Everton, because to Covid-19 cases in the opponent camps.
The rescheduled match against Watford was supposed to take place on Tuesday, but it now appears to be in jeopardy.
Burnley were missing seven players due to Covid-19 during their 2-1 FA Cup loss to Championship side Huddersfield last Saturday, a match that manager Sean Dyche also missed, and Chris Wood has since joined Newcastle.
