The Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC), led by Governor of Niger State, Sani Bello, made good on their threat to sack the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led faction when it stormed the party’s national secretariat and took control of the party structure.
Our correspondent reports that the Niger Governor arrived at the Secretariat a few minutes before 12 p.m., accompanied by the majority of the Committee’s dissatisfied members, and was immediately seated in the place reserved for the party’s National Chairman.
The faction, which consists of nine of the CECPC’s 12 regular members, convened an emergency meeting, just as the State party chairmen, who arrived extremely early in the morning, await further developments and directions in a state of bewilderment.
Interestingly, despite refuting the rumoured shift in leadership, the Secretary Caretaker Committee was present at the current meeting at the secretariat, which is being presided over by Governor Bello.
Although the state chairmen were perplexed as to why they were invited, there are suggestions that they were invited for a hatchet job, either favouring or opposing the sack.
