President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the transfer of $8.5 million to the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development for the evacuation of nearly 5,000 Nigerians stuck in Ukraine, both registered and unregistered.
Zubairu Dada, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, revealed this on Wednesday.
After the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the minister told State House media that three planes would be despatched to four countries.
Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, according to him, would be the destinations for the pickup planes.
The evacuation will be carried out by two flights from Air Peace and one from Max Air.
Mr. Dada stated that all agencies are sufficiently resourced to ensure that the evacuation begins on Wednesday.
The flights will operate in a variety of shifts until the process is completed, they said.
