Pelumi Olajengbesi, an Abuja-based human rights lawyer, has hinted that Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho will be released shortly.

Despite the fact that Olajengbesi has subsequently resigned from the Nigerian legal team representing Igboho, he counseled Yoruba leaders not to be self-centered.

Igboho has been detained in the Benin Republic since July 2020, when he was apprehended by West African nation security forces at a Cotonou airport while attempting to flee to Germany.

After the Federal Government declared him wanted, the 49-year-old agitator fled to Benin Republic.

Despite frantic efforts to secure his release,  he has so far spent more than 201 days in a Benin Republic prison.

A Benin court has rejected Igboho’s extradition to Nigeria and ordered that the activist be kept in custody awaiting further proceedings.

His supporters have expressed worries over prolonged stay in detention.

Numerous groups, Agbekoya Farmers Society and the Diaspora Groups inclusive, have staged protests to demand the ‘unconditional’ release of Igboho.

Olajengbesi in reaction via a terse post on Facebook on Saturday said: “Chief Sunday Igboho will be out very soon and there will be massive jubilation across the entire Yoruba land.

“He is no doubt a courageous MAN.

“This is very authoritative just that our Yoruba leaders should stop being selfish and allow good to prevail.”
