A police officer was shot dead by bandits in a midnight attack at the Toru -Orua residence of former Governor of Bayelsa State , Seriake Dickson , in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state .

It was gathered that the bandits on Wednesday night invaded Dickson ’ s compound through the Forcados River .

The deceased, said to have died on the spot ,was among a team of police personnel guarding the former governor ’s home.

The state Police Command when contacted, said it would come up with a detailed statement on the incident later.
