On Sunday at the University of Calabar, the Academic Staff Union of the University will convene its quarterly National Executive Council meeting.

This was confirmed to our correspondent on Saturday in Abuja by a NEC member.

The fourth quarter’s NEC is currently available. There will be many difficulties, but one that will undoubtedly come up is the subject of withheld and lost income.

It was impossible to reach Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the union’s national president, for comment right away.

According to Ayekooto, after ASUU terminated its strike on October 14, the academics received a “mutilated” salary for the month and had the salaries for the next months withheld.

The union had just ceased its strike two weeks into the month, according to the Federal Government, who claimed that the payment was prorated. However, ASUU objected and charged that the government had casualized academics’ employment.

The executive branch of the government has resolutely refused to change its position on enforcing the “No Work, No Pay” policy, despite protests and the intervention of House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

The government’s decision to withhold lecturers’ pay sparked a wave of protests across the nation, with some union chapters demanding for the ouster of Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, and Chris Ngige, th,pe minister of labor and employment.

The union did affirm that for the month of November 2022, members received their full pay.
