According to reports, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ National Strike Organising Committee met to decide how to proceed with the union’s current strike.
The committee is composed of prominent union officials.
This is because, according to information obtained by our correspondent, zonal meetings will start by the week’s end, after which the branches will hold congresses.
This was revealed to newsmen by a member of the union’s National Executive Council who asked that his identity not be published because he was not allowed to speak on the subject.
The National Strike Organising Committee will convene today (Wednesday), and then this weekend will see the start of zonal meetings and congresses.
The president “cannot decide alone, there are processes,” he said. “From there, information will be passed to our members on the next development.”
In the meantime, ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke on Wednesday encouraged Nigerian students not to support politicians whose kids attend schools abroad.
Osodeke participated in a Twitter Space Webinar titled “ASUU Strike, Revitalization Fund, and the Way Forward” and hosted by Premium Times.
“Don’t vote for somebody you think won’t look out for your interests, whose kids are away studying or living overseas.
I’ll say it again: You don’t need to vote for them because you wouldn’t cast your ballot for someone who would kill you.
ASUU has reportedly been on strike since February 14, 2022.
On Tuesday, a meeting between the union and the federal government came to a standstill.
