Senator Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner of the second parallel primary held at the Osun State stadium complex yesterday by Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa and Chairman of the Osun People Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Primary, with 1,887 votes, while his closest rival Sanya Omirin received four votes.

Dele Adeleke scored one, Fatai Akinbade nil, Dotun Babayemi nil, and Akin Ogunbiyi nil, according to Ewhrudjakpo.

He claimed that a total of 1,916 ballots were cast, with 24 of them being illegitimate.

“By the authority granted to me as Chief Returning Officer of this gubernatorial primary, we hereby collectively pronounce Adeleke Ademola Jackson as the victor of this gubernatorial primary for the 2022 governorship election in Nigeria.”

Ewhrudjakpo, on the other side, advised all other candidates to join forces with the winner in order to win the state’s governorship election on July 16.

He also stated that there was no parallel congress in the state, and that any congress other than the one he was in charge of would not be recognised by the party’s national headquarters.

” The king and the crown have arrived. “This is the genuine congress, and any other one held elsewhere will not be recognised,” he stated.

Adeleke stated in his acceptance speech that there is no victor and no vanquished in the primary.

“We’re all winners,” he remarked. Let us get together to save the people of the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“By God’s help, the PDP will win the governorship election on July 16 in a landslide, reclaiming the stolen mandate.” He stated, “Our manifesto will be issued in a few days.”

Meanwhile, there was tension in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, yesterday over the conduct of the governorship primary poll. Efforts to reach an agreement between the Soji Adagunodo and Sunday Bisi factions failed.

According to all indications, a parallel primary was held in opposition to the party’s National Working Committee’s decision to hold the primary using statutory lists in order to prevent any litigation at the end of the day.

The primary for the Wale Ojo-led side was conducted at Wocdif Centre, while the Sunday Bisi faction held theirs in Osogbo Stadium.

Yesterday, Bisi’s group told THISDAY that he has not received a letter from any of the contestants that withdrew from today’s governorship primary election.

Bisi stated this at Osogbo Stadium, the primary site, noting that six candidates obtained forms from the National Headquarters, implying that six aspirants are contesting the primary yesterday.

“If an aspirant withdraws from the race, he must write a formal letter to the party advising them of his decision.” We will treat them as gubernatorial candidates until that is accomplished.

“However, if the Abuja delegates arrive, they may be able to inform us whether or not there are letters to that effect.” They will also provide the names of those who have been affected.

“Candidates can withdraw under the new electoral law. And it’s crystal clear.”

Bisi then expressed confidence that the gubernatorial candidate selection process will go well, saying that “there will be no cause for a quarrel or confusion.”
