The Kwara state branch of Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq as a matter of urgency to implement the long awaiting minimum wage to cushion the recent hike in fuel pump price and electricity bills in the country.

This is contained in a statement duly signed by the Kwara state Chairman of JNC (Trade Union Side) Comrade Saliu Suleiman and the Secretary, Comrade Joseph Tunde and made available to this medium on Sunday.

The statement reads ” the council as a matter of urgency want the Governor to look into the economic hardship experience by workers in the state as a result of recent increase fuel pump price and electricity bills by the federal government. We urged the Governor to sign and implement the minimum wage without further delay.

”The council further demand the addition of 20 percent on the agreed table of minimum wage to restore the eroded table of the old table taking away by the hike price of fuel and devaluation by the government.

According to the statement the Governor shouldn’t be adamant on the issue of workers welfare and the approval for the 2020 promotion exercise. We’re also appealing to you to expedite action on the promotion of local government employees, SUBEB and Teaching Service Commission in the state.

The statement however condemned the recent hike in electricity bills which is compounding more suffering on Nigerians.
