With a come-from-behind victory over Al-Nassr, Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard’s Saudi Pro League season got off to an excellent start.

While Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo was not listed on the squad sheet for Al-Nassr after being carried off the field during Saturday’s Arab Club Champions Cup victory, Gerrard chose Henderson as his first starter of the year. After just four minutes, Al-Nassr took the lead thanks to former Liverpool star Sadio Mane, but Al-Ettifaq fought back over the course of the next 45 minutes. Gerrard’s Saudi team won in his debut thanks to two goals within the first eight minutes of the second half, a goalkeeping error, and a Moussa Dembele tap-in.

Particularly against a team that ended 30 points ahead of them in the league standings in the 2022–23 season, Gerrard’s team had a great start to the season.
