A country in south-east Asia, with a population of almost 100 million people (97.5 million) making it the 15th most populous nation in the world. It borders with China in the north while also sharing boundaries with Laos and Cambodia in the west. Vietnam shares maritime borders with Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and The Philippines through the South China sea. The capital city is Hanoi and the largest city is Ho Chi Minh city (also commonly known as Saigon; its former name) which is also its former capital city. Vietnam is officially known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam( SRV).

 

 

 

Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, it is a developing country with a lower-middle-income. It is a Unitary Marxist-Leninist one-party socialist republic and is one of the two communist states in south-east Asia ( the other being Laos).For almost 20 years Vietnam was subjected to war. The north was supported by China and Soviet Union and other communist states while the south was backed by the USA and other anti-communist allies. The country is mostly hilly and highly forested. It is ranked 16th globally in biological diversity as it is home to approximately 16% of the worlds species.

Officially, Vietnam is home to 54 ethnic groups. Catholics,Protestants,Hoahao buddhists and Caodaism followers make up majority of the religious circle in the country while Islam, Baha’is and Hinduism make up the minority.Vietnamese is the official language while French is the second language and is also common amongst the population most especially the older generation as it is a colonial legacy.The most popular sport in the country while The Vovinam,Kim ke, and Binh dinh martial arts are widely common inthe country.
