According to reports, Nigerian Army soldiers have entered the Obeagu Community in the Ebonyi State district of Ishielu.

The troops entered the community around 5 am on Monday, according to some community leaders who spoke with our correspondent that morning. They were allegedly shooting randomly and burning some houses.

Ten Hilux vehicles and seven armored tanks carrying more than 100 soldiers were claimed to have been used by the soldiers as they invaded the neighborhood.

Although it remained unclear why the military broke into the neighborhood, no one has been reported dead to date. According to reports, only one woman was struck by a stray bullet.

We woke up this morning to the sound of military gunshots, a community leader and recently-departed councillor claimed, confirming the invasion. Everyone is rushing around as I talk. Each and every community is being shot upon by soldiers. Along with the locals, all the Eha-Amufu people who fled to our community after being sacked by Fulani herdsmen are also missing.

Another local, Ogbuabor Sunday, informed our correspondent that the military arrived in tanks when they were attending Catholic early morning prayer and morning mass.

“I was in the church this morning at 5:30 when more than 30 military vehicles, including armored tanks, drove into the neighborhood. They quickly began intermittent gunfire after that. Nobody who attended church this morning had left yet. In the woods, I’m responding to this cry, Ogbuabor stated.

However, according to information obtained by our correspondent, the occupying military were interrogating some elderly and female arrestees about the whereabouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra camp in the neighborhood.

Remember that on October 13, 2022, armed herdsmen broke into the neighborhood, killing one, injuring two, and kidnapping three. The neighborhood paid millions of dollars in ransom to get the kidnapped people back.

Also keep in mind that on March 29, 2021, armed herdsmen attacked the neighborhood and killed 21 individuals. Throughout the invasion, which lasted for over 12 hours, neither the army nor the police intervened.

Security officials have reportedly not detained any of the attackers since the attacks, despite finding one of the attackers’ phones during the invasion last year, which were given to the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, when he paid a visit to the neighborhood a week after the horrifying incident.

While waiting for the Nigerian Army to respond, attempts to contact Major Jonathan Unuakhalu, Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 82DV, proved unsuccessful. Unuakhalu did not return calls or texts left on his phone.
