Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Norway striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old will join in July after City activated a 60m euro (£51.2m) release clause in his contract.
The agreement puts an end to the club’s search for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer.
“We can confirm that we have achieved an agreement in principle for Erling Haaland’s transfer,” City said.
“The transfer is contingent on the club and the player agreeing to terms.”
Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund, passing his City medical in Belgium on Monday.
Real Madrid and Barcelona were also interested in signing Haaland, but he chose to transfer to Etihad Stadium instead.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said earlier on Tuesday that he couldn’t disclose the incoming deal due to legal issues.
“Everyone is aware of the problem. He said, “I shouldn’t say since I don’t like talking about the future or the upcoming season.”
“New players always help to be a stronger team,” Guardiola remarked when asked what influence a new number nine would have on the Premier League champions. However, neither a defense nor a striker was involved.
“The club must always have an eye on the future. I am aware of and support the club’s actions 100 percent “Recent.”
The move would be one of the most significant of the summer.
Prior to his death, sports agent Mino Raiola was involved in the conversations, with associates carrying the process through to completion.
Guardiola has long expressed his desire to have a conventional centre-forward, despite City’s proximity to a second consecutive Premier League title without one.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy refused to sell Harry Kane to City last summer, despite City’s best efforts.
Given Kane’s two-year contract and his release clause, Haaland is a more straightforward trade to close.
In 121 games for Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, and Dortmund, he has 92 league goals and was the youngest player to record 20 Champions League goals last season.
Alf-Inge Haaland, Haaland’s father, played for City between 2000 and 2003, as well as Leeds and Nottingham Forest.
