A furious manager headbutted a female referee during a tense soccer match in Brazil yesterday, it became a wild and violent scene. Since then, the management has been sacked.
Desportiva Ferroviaria manager Rafael Soriano came onto the pitch at halftime of yesterday’s game between Desportiva Ferroviaria and Nova Venecia to protest referee Arthur Gomes Rabelo blowing the whistle too early for his satisfaction. Soriano was separated from Rabelo by assistant referee Marcielly Netto, who was a head shorter than him.
Soriano then spun around and slammed his forehead into Netto’s mouth. He was immediately dispatched, and his employment was terminated shortly after.
The game ended in a 3-1 loss for Desportiva Ferroviaria. Following that, the club issued a statement on the tragedy, expressing their condolences to Netto and promising to assist him in any way they can.
Rafael Soriano, according to Euro 24, offers a different perspective on what happened there. He allegedly denied assaulting Marcielly Netto, calling the incident “an accident,” and accusing her of trying to take advantage of the situation since she is a woman.
The Espirito Santo State Football Federation, which governs Soriano’s now-defunct team, has promised to examine the event and impose appropriate sanctions.
Soriano’s actions have been widely condemned by Brazilian soccer clubs and fans throughout the world. Many people are pushing for FIFA to ban him from playing soccer for the rest of his life.
