Barcelona’s Dani Alves has heaped praise on Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, admitting he is one of his favourite defenders to watch, while also reserving praise for Reece James and Achraf Hakimi.

The 38-year-old, who returned to Barcelona late last year, is widely regarded as one of the greatest right-backs in history, having won titles all over the globe for both club and country since making his debut back in 2001.

When asked by FourFourTwo to choose his favorite modern right-back, Alves immediately named Alexander-Arnold, who, despite his inexperience, has played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs in recent years.

“I have a lot of respect for Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Alves stated. “He’s a terrific footballer with world-class abilities.”

Alves didn’t stop there, though, bringing in another England right-back who has had a fantastic season so far, as well as a Serie A title winner.

He went on to say, “I also enjoy watching Reece James and Achraf Hakimi.” “They combine strength and technique, and they are also excellent players.”

“They all have distinct personalities and techniques, but they all know how to get the job done.”

Alexander-Arnold has previously admitted that he grew up following Alves’ Barcelona side, which included Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta, and believes the Blaugrana and Liverpool have similarities.

“I’d say Barcelona is my other favorite team,” he told GQ. “I think they share some of Liverpool’s ideals and ideas in that they like to develop players through the academy.”
