To expand and deepen its operations in Anambra, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has opened a new area and regional office.

This was revealed by Mr. Olanrewaju Onipede, SON Coordinator in Anambra, during the presentation of the Mandatory Certificate and Assessment Program (MANCAP) to worthy enterprises in Awka on Tuesday.
“In Anambra, the SON management has approved a new structure; we now have two state offices in Awka and Nnewi, as well as a state regional office in Awka.”

“This will put us closer to our clients, minimise travel time and other difficulties, and boost overall efficiency,” he explained.

According to the coordinator, the organisation has devised a policy of concessions to support real cottage enterprises and help them regularise their operations.

Onipede emphasised that producing, importing, and distributing unwholesome or unauthorised items remained a serious crime, and that those responsible would be apprehended and prosecuted.

He praised the nine companies who received new MANCAP certificates for 20 items and four others that received revalidation for seven products for successfully completing the clearance process.

According to the organiser, the certificate will be valid for three years, during which time the items will be monitored and revalidated if they continuously meet the norm, or withdrawn if they do not.

“Today, we revalidated seven goods in four companies and gave MANCAP certificates to nine companies for a total of 20 products.”

“They subjected themselves to the processes and were judged worthy; they’ve been consistent, and it’s impressive to know that we’ve never had to revoke a certificate.”

“That’s because they’re aware of our routine visits, surveillance, monitoring, and analysis, which are usually unannounced,” he explained.
