Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev says he wants to “promote peace all over the world” while his Russian compatriot Andrey Rublev delivered the same message.

Medvedev who is expected to become world No 1 on Monday, was speaking after his quarter-final victory over Yoshihito Nishioka in Mexico. He won 6-2 6-3 in just 70 minutes and after, advocated for peace.

“I want to promote peace all around the world as a tennis player,” the 26-year-old Russian remarked.

“We perform in a variety of nations. As a youngster and a professional, I’ve traveled to many different nations. It’s difficult to take in all of this information. Peace is something I strongly believe in.”

Andrey Rublev, a Medvedev compatriot, teamed up with Denys Molchanov, a Ukrainian, to win a doubles title in Marseille last week, and Medvedev backed the duo.

When asked about the partnership between Rublev and Molchanov, Medvedev replied, “This was wonderful because I think people need to stay together and that’s the most essential [thing].”

“At this point, you realize that tennis isn’t always that essential,” he remarked.

Because of the situation in Ukraine, Rublev said he was receiving some negative feedback online.

“You realize that my match is unimportant at this point. It isn’t about how my match affects me. What’s going on is far more heinous “Rublev stated following his late-night triumph over American Mackenzie McDonald in the Dubai Championships.

“You realize how critical it is for the world to be at peace, for people to appreciate each other regardless of their differences, and for the world to be unified. We must look after our planet and each other. This is the most crucial point.”
