World Anti-Doping Agency’s disciplinary tribunal has handed Nigerian track athlete Blessing Okagbare a ten-year sentence for breaking doping laws.
According to the AIU, the Nigerian 100/200m record holder has been provisionally suspended until 2022 after a sample taken from him tested positive for Human Growth Hormone.
Growth Hormone is a non-specified drug on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List for 2021, and an adverse analytical test for such a substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules requires a provisional suspension.
The AIU claims it took the sample from Okagbare during an out-of-competition test on July 19 and that the WADA-accredited laboratory that analyzed it informed the AIU of the negative analytical result.
On the eve of the women’s 100m semifinals, the American sprinter was booted out of the Tokyo Olympics.
The anti-doping agency stated on Friday announcing the Nigerian international’s 10-year ban.
