According to rumours, Karim Benzema has vowed to leave Real Madrid next summer if the club signs Erling Haaland, with the prolific striker reportedly dissatisfied with Florentino Perez’s efforts to sign a new attacker.

The 34-year-old has 24 goals in just 27 games this season, but Real Madrid is largely believed to be first in line to sign Haaland when he leaves Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

This is reported to have enraged the man he may replace at the Bernabeu, with El Nacional reporting that the club will have to pick between the two, with Benzema open to leaving the club.

However, according to the same story, the experienced ace is “unwilling” to give up his career and would be willing to retire if Haaland arrived.

When the £64 million release clause in his contract becomes activated at the conclusion of the season, Haaland will have the opportunity to leave Dortmund, and club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confessed it will be difficult to keep him.

Despite the fact that the deal is too good to pass on, Madrid president Florentino Perez expects to have to pick between the Norwegian and Benzema, his current first-choice striker. The latter is alleged to have informed him of his decision to leave.

According to the same source, Perez can’t ‘afford’ to leave his ‘best footballer’ out of the starting XI for the rest of the season, and this problem might mean the end of the club’s pursuit of Haaland.

Benzema seemed to be desperate to stay, telling Perez that he wants to continue at Real Madrid. He is said to feel valued there and would be happy to stay until the end of his contract, which is set to expire in 2023.

If he does decide to leave Madrid, however, Paris Saint-Germain is said to be interested in signing him. According to reports, talks between the two teams have begun, and an offer from the Ligue 1 giants might tempt the seasoned marksman.
