Given the number of Covid-19 instances and injuries at Chelsea, manager Thomas Tuchel warned on Friday that the club will have to go above and beyond to reduce the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

After 21 games, Chelsea is 10 points behind winners City, with the two sides scheduled to meet on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

“To catch Man City and finish first in the Premier League, we must outperform them, and to do so, we will need everyone’s help. However, we are not operating at full capacity “Tuchel stated.

“We must prove to ourselves that we can step up and close the deficit on a daily basis. We believe in what we do, in our players, and in our club’s philosophy that we can succeed.”

Andreas Christensen will miss the game after testing positive for Covid-19, while Trevoh Chalobah, as well as full backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell, have already been ruled out due to injury.

“When you find out Andreas has Covid after he returns from injury and plays so well, it’s a mental setback for everyone because you have a player back and then it’s no,” Tuchel explained.

The German admitted that a loss on Saturday could put an end to the London club’s title hopes.

“They’ve had fewer injuries and lost fewer weeks as a result. They did not suffer from Covid for as long as we did, which is a significant distinction “he said.
