Ondo lawmakers pass anti- Open grazing bill into law

The anti-Open Grazing bill has been passed into law by the Lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly .

The bill, when signed into law, would help to regulate security, rearing and grazing of livestock as well as establishment of ranches.

Other bills passed into law by the lawmakers were for the judicial autonomy and violence against persons.

The bills provide for a law to provide for the management of fund accruing to the Ondo State Judiciary from the consolidated revenue fund of Ondo State to ensure accountability, transparency, effective and efficient utilization of the funds and1¹ a bill for a law to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence against person and to provide for maximum and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and other related matters.

Violators of the anti-open grazing bill would be arrested and prosecuted by the Nigeria Police.

Chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Honourable Taofeek Oladele, who Presented report on the anti-open grazing bill, said the bill would prevent destruction of farm crops in the state.

Hon Oladele stated that the bill would enhance the growth of livestock farming, prevent, control and manage the spread of diseases as well as encourage modern techniques of animal husbandry.

Presenting the report on the bill on prohibition of violence against person, Honourable Akintomide Akinrogunde said it would reduce attacks on women, children and other vulnerable persons.

Ondo Deputy Speaker, Honourable Aderoboye Samuel Ademoye, who presented the judicial autonomy bill, said it would regulate management of funds in the judicial arm of government.

He the bill when signed into law would enhance the welfare of Judiciary Staff, regulate procurement processes in the sector and as well enhance dispensation of Justice.

After thorough debate on the bills, motions were moved for their adoption and they were adopted through voice votes.
