Yemen records its first case of corona virus

Yemen confirms its first COVID-19 case on Friday. The Supreme National Emergency Committee confirmed this in the southern oil-producing region of Hadhramount.

The infected individual, a Yemeni working in a small commercial port of Ash shihr is said to be stable and receiving treatments . In addition, authorities have put precautionary measure in place, however, there were no further details.

Yemen is a state where a five-year conflict between the Yemen’s Houthis movement and Saudi-led coalition has put its healthcare system in shambles with over 100,000 deaths and millions at the brink of hunger.

Authorities gave directives to shut-down the Ash Shihr port for a week deep cleaning, ordered its workers to go on self-Isolation for 2 weeks and imposed a 12-hour nightly curfew in all Hadhramount districts effective from 6:00 pm Friday till further notice.
