The Abia government rejects the 10,000 workers layoff report.

An allegation that 10,000 state employees had been fired has been refuted by the government of Abia, which has called the report false and unsubstantiated.
Okey Kanu, the commissioner for information and culture, revealed this in a Wednesday conversation with journalists in Umuahia.
He declared, “The report on the firing of Abia employees by Gov. Alex Otti is fake and unfounded.”
According to Kanu, the state administration took some steps to address the problem of “ghost workers,” and as part of its effort to clean up the civil service, it also withdrew the identities of these individuals off the government’s payroll.
Some employees whose names came up during the government’s verification process as having been hired illegally were also impacted.
This category consists of people who worked illegally from December through March and April of this year, Kanu said.
According to him, several of the government employees who fit this description had their appointment letters retroactively issued.
No responsible government would permit such a scenario to persist, he said, calling the employment of these people “surreptitious” and “a bait used to pile underserved pressure on the present administration.”
Kanu said that no exceptions had been requested for the employment of personnel between December and April.
He asserts that Abia State has procedures in place for hiring personnel for the civil service. He claimed that the employment procedure was not conducted according to the law, and he pleaded with the residents of Abia to ignore the untrue rumor that 10,000 workers had been fired.
According to Kanu, the state government’s dedication to the welfare of its workforce—both active workers and retirees—remains unbroken.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to paying all outstanding wages and pensions.
