ONDO: APC stops the deputy of Akeredolu from being impeached and starts a peace process.
By; Mary Owolabi
The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has requested all parties to halt their efforts to impeach the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in what appear to be last-minute efforts to resolve the political crisis in Ondo state.
Days after Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor, returned to the nation, the state Assembly started impeachment proceedings against the deputy.
In order to address the conflict, the party has established a nine-member reconciliation committee.
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, highlighted the importance of ensuring a positive working relationship between the governor and his deputy during the inauguration of the committee led by the former governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari.
He expressed confidence that the committee’s members, who have extensive experience in public service, can accomplish the task.
“As a political party, the APC is interested in ensuring that the governor of Ondo State and his deputy live in harmony and get along well,” said Ganduje.
“It is crucial to form a reconciliation group in order to determine how to address this issue. A reconciliation committee must be made up of individuals with pertinent experience and cognitive expertise on the matter at hand.Having established a committee for reconciliation, we have already communicated that any future actions and procedures on this matter should be suspended.
He claims that among the Masari panel’s terms of reference is to “interface and engage with all contending partner(s) with a view to gathering facts and circumstances surrounding the ongoing impeachment of the Ondo State Deputy Governor.”
