Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA on Friday expressed unease over a distressed building in Apapa local government area of the state.

LASEMA Director-General Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the building situated at No 7, Sule Close, Apapa/ Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the state, was physically unfit when the attention of the agency was drawn to it.

Full inspection and additional testing on the building will thereby be carried out on the building, by the agency’s response team with the Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA, and Lagos State Material Testing Agency.

Following results from investigations, LASEMA will then determine the fate of the building, whether it’ll remain standing or be levelled to ground zero.

Advising the residents, the agency urged them to stay cautious, and where possible, seek alternate lodging until the stability of the building is ascertained, in order to prevent loss of lives due to unsafe building conditions.

The Agency said, “The attention of the agency has been drawn to a building with failing structural integrity at the above address. The agency’s response team alongside with LABCA And Lagos State Material Testing Agency will be carrying out a full inspection and additional testing.

The results will determine whether the building will be allowed to remain standing or whether it will be levelled to ground zero”.
