Iwuanyanwu: Ohanaeze declares no leadership conflict

By: Adisa Deborah

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide maintains there is no leadership conflict in the organization following the death of its President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Dr Alex Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary of the Igbo socio-cultural organization, revealed this on Friday in Enugu, emphasizing that such conjecture by the media was false.

“There is no leadership row or tussle in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide at present and there is not likely to be one shortly,” Ogbonnia told reporters.

He stated that the group’s National Executive Committee, which includes eminent intellectuals, technocrats, and veterans from a variety of professions, is already carrying out the tasks of the organization’s umbrella body.

“This is being done seamlessly daily by the appropriate structures under the administrative competence of the Secretary-General, Amb. Okey Emuchay.”Iwuanyanwu passed away quietly on July 25. It is unusual for an Igbo to assume the position of president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, especially because the burial committee has yet to be formed. According to a letter circulating, Dr. Jackson Omenazu was nominated or selected to replace the late Joel Kroham, who was the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo till his death.

“However, such a letter was not made available to the NEC of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,” the politician explained.

Ogbonnia went on to say that it would be insensitive and unthinkable for the NEC to replace Kroham based on a letter from Rivers State.

He stated that this was especially true when many people were uncertain and “skeptical about their Igboness”.

He emphasized that Omenazu has every right to pursue his interests as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in January 2025 without putting Ohanaeze Ndigbo to shame.
