Haaland become 2nd most valuable footballer in the world, overtakes Harry Kane

Erling Haaland’s meteoric rise is showing no signs of abating and ahead of what could be a significant summer for the Borussia Dortmund striker, he has now been ranked as the second most expensive player in the world.

That’s according to KPMG’s Football Benchmark, who rate the Norway striker as a £113million asset to the German side ahead of what is widely expected to be a major transfer tussle between Europe’s elite to sign Haaland in the summer window.

The top ranked player is Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, valued at £163m. There are also questions regarding his future in France, with one more season remaining on his contract and talks over an extension seemingly dragging.

But the Noweigian rise up to second reflect what an impressive year the 20-year-old has had both in the Bundesliga and on the international scene.

He has scored 43 goals in 46 appearances for club and country and that form has seen him rise nine places since the last set of ratings from Football Benchmark in February.

In turn, that increase sees Haaland overtake players such as Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Neymar at PSG to go into second on the table.

England captain Kane, who is himself considering his Tottenham future with the club facing a battle for European football next season, is valued at £109m and in third place.

Bundesliga outfit Dortmund have been insistent that they will keep their star man this summer but his agent Mino Raiola was pictured in Spain with Haaland’s father earlier this year to meet with LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Premier League trio Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have also all been linked with bringing the striker to England.

Elsewhere, United striker Marcus Rashford has also seen a big rise that puts him ahead of players such as Neymar, Jadon Sancho at Dortmund and City attacker Raheem Sterling after a season where the 23-year-old has so far fired in 21 goals in 55 games for club and country.

Marcus Rashford is fourth with an estimated worth of £104m at Old Trafford.

Raheem Sterling, who has had a tough latter half of the season at City with a lot of time on the bench, has dropped to fifth on £102m.

Neymar, who signed a new PSG deal recently, is sixth on £100m. City’s De Bruyne is seventh, valued at £97m.

Haaland’s Dortmund team-mate Sancho sits joint eighth at an estimated worth of £95m, alongside Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
