Nominees for the 2020 Golden Boy award have been released.
The award which is meant for players not more than 21 years of age saw the likes of favorite Jadon Sancho, Kai Hervertz, Erling Halaand, Phil Foden nominated.
A total of 100 youngsters were nominated with just one goalkeeper Ionut-Casian Rus of CFR Cluj making the list, 24 defenders, 25 midfielders and 50 attackers.
The Golden Boy award started in 2003 and was established by Italian tabloid Tuttorsport. Other tabloids have however joined in participation of the voting. The newspapers are Bild (Germany), Blick (Switzerland), A Bola (Portugal), I’Equipe (France), France Football (France), Marca (Spain), Mundo Deportivo (Spain), Ta Nea (Greece), Sport Express Sport (Russia), De Telegraaf (Netherlands), and The Times (United Kingdom).
Dutchman Rafael Van Dar Vaart was the first winner of the award. The likes of Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe were former winners of the award.
Atletico Madrid and Portugal attacker Joao Felix is the current holder of the award.
