Fayemi Slashes State politicians’ pay by 50%


The Ekiti State Government disclosed on Tuesday that it has slashed the salaries of political office holders in the state by half, including that of the Governor and his deputy.

The government said that her action hinged on the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 scourge on the global economy, which has taken a toll on the financial capability of the nation .

After taken stock of our financial situation, in relation to our constantly decreasing receipts from the federation account, as well as our dwindling internally generated revenue (IGR), and has been forced to wake up to the current realities of our fiscal position, the Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua said.

He further said that ,since promises were made to the Ekiti people while seeking their mandate, coupled with the moral duty of improving their welfare, a time for making difficult decisions is at hand, which is essential we to make.

Saved cuts will be channeled into the execution, and completion of developmental projects in the State, as hitherto planned. However, Salaries of civil servants will not be affected by this directive, maintaining status quo.
